George Labeja- the Former Gulu City Mayor is yet to hand over office to his successor-Alfred Okwonga two weeks after the latter was sworn in.

Joyce Alima, the Gulu City Speaker tasked the City Town Clerk-Edward Kiwanuka to explain why the former mayor has not yet handed over office.

Kiwanuka who had no explanation requested for time to get in touch with Labeja to handover office.

Ojara Martin Mapenduzi, the Member of Parliament for Bar-dege-Layibi Division in Gulu City accused the Town Clerk of failing in his responsibility.

Okwonga-the new Mayor Gulu City said he is failing to do his work because the office has not yet been handed over to him.

Alima-the Speaker gave the town clerk two days to look for Labeja or face the consequences.

Our efforts to reach Labeja for a comment were futile since his known Mobile number was switched off.

The Permanent Secretary of Local Government Ministry, Ben Kumumanya earlier wrote a letter ordering all Chief Administrative Officers and Town Clerks to arrange for swearing-in activities between 13th and 28th May 2021 to enable a smooth transition between the outgoing and the new Local Government council.
