Seventeen people are confirmed dead following a fatal accident along the Kagadi-Fort Portal road.

The accident occurred on Sunday night around 9 pm at Kyamutunzi village near River Muzizi in Muhorro Town Council, Kagadi district.
It involved a trailer registration number UAD 431Q, loaded with fish, and a taxi registration number UBM 426V traveling from Fort Portal to Kagadi district.

The identities of the deceased and survivors are yet to be determined.

Preliminary investigations conducted by the police suggest that the trailer experienced a mechanical problem, causing the brakes to fail while navigating a sharp corner, resulting in a collision with the oncoming taxi.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, reported that one of the accident victims who had sustained injuries and was rushed to Kagadi Hospital succumbed to their injuries around 10 am on Monday. The deceased was an occupant of the trailer involved in the accident.
