A message of reconciliation, forgiveness and love has been the major topic of discussion during a funeral service of a son who was shot dead by father, while businessman Haji Ogwang Remanded for Manslaughter in Son’s Fatal Shooting.

The message, preached by Rev. Lawnsome Etum Akezi of Faith Mission Church Lira, came at a time when the entire family is grieved over the untimely demise of Haron Okello, at his funeral in Akalo Sub-County Kole District on Tuesday 28, November 2023.
Rev. Lawnsome reiterated the need for the spirit of forgiveness among the family members, that they may be able to coexist, exercise tolerance and live in harmony.
Citing the entire life of Job in the Bible, he comforted the mourners and urged them to always follow Job’s faithfulness and forgiving lifestyle, stating that no condition is ever permanent.

Haron Okello, born 20, April 1992, was shot dead on Tuesday 21, November 2023 by his father Haji Joe Ogwang, 57 years, a businessman and a resident of Ireda Estate in Lira-City East Division during a confrontation at around 2:15 pm.
It’s alleged that while Ogwang was at Kamuswahili cell doing his daily business, he was confronted by Okello who is his biological son demanding for money, and in the process of the confrontation, Okello (deceased now) tried to disarm his father of a pistol in his possession, and in self-defence, the father (Ogwang) discharged a bullet that injured him.

Accused of the grave crime of manslaughter following the fatal shooting of his son, Ogwang now faces a challenging legal battle.
The case unfolded in the Chief Magistrate’s Court of Lira City, under the watchful gaze of Chief Magistrate Samson Abiti Loum on Tuesday.
Through his lawyers, Patrick Okwir from Okwii and Company Advocates and Isaac Omara from Akoko, Job Omara and Company Advocates, the accused applied for bail arguing that it is a constitutional right, arguing that the accused person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Prosecution led by resident chief state attorney Jonathan Okello objected to the bail application arguing that the case is of extreme violence involving a gun.
He said the investigation is still ongoing and the accused might interfere with inquiries.
The chief magistrate remanded the accused person to Lira Main Prison till December 1, 2023, when he will be brought back to court for a ruling on the bail application.
