The recent events in Acamcabu village, Ayeolyec parish in Akokoro Sub County, Apac district have left more than 500 families in a dire situation.

The demolition of their homes by the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) soldiers guarding Maruzi ranch has resulted in a distressing reality where families are left without shelter and basic necessities.
This unfortunate situation stems from the government’s deployment of UPDF soldiers to guard Maruzi ranch, leading to the eviction of several families who were occupying the land, including those in Acamcabu village.
The testimonies from residents paint a harrowing picture of the aftermath, and Denis Ayo, a father of eight, recounts the devastation of losing his three grass-thatched houses, which were set ablaze by the soldiers.
The loss of all household properties has forced families to endure the harshness of sleeping in the cold and living in distressing conditions.
Chemist Angim highlights the ongoing struggles faced by the community, emphasizing the need for urgent intervention to alleviate their suffering.

The residents’ plea for immediate government intervention is a resounding call for action, and they seek the support of the Apac Resident District Commissioner to voice their concerns and advocate for assistance.
Additionally, the residents are appealing for a resolution that would allocate a portion of the land to them, in line with recent parliamentary discussions aimed at settling the matter amicably.
The absence of comments from key figures, including Joseph Dako, the Officer in charge Acholi-inn Army detachment, and Apac RDC George Abdul, underscores the urgency of the situation.
However, the commitment of Canon Richard Ogwang Odyero, the Presidential Senior Mobilizer in charge of Lango Sub-region, to escalate the matter to the Office of the President offers a glimmer of hope for the affected families.
