The territorial police in Lira City’s East Division have in their custody a 36-year-old woman, Conni Akullu, after being found in possession of suspected counterfeit notes.

The arrest came after a complaint lodged by George Okello, a local businessman in Amach trading center, who alleged that Akullu was in possession of fake notes amounting to 1,690,000 Shillings.


It was reported that Akullu had visited approximately four shops in the trading center, using the counterfeit currency to make purchases on the 22nd of December, 2023.


Following her apprehension, Akullu was found with fake 20,000 Shilling notes totaling 1,690,000 Shillings.
As a result, she is currently detained at Lira City’s East Division in Amach, while investigations into the matter are ongoing.


In response to this incident, the North Kyoga Region Police Spokesperson, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, emphasized the importance of public vigilance and prompt reporting of criminal activities to the authorities.

He stressed the need for collaboration between law enforcement and the community to ensure the swift arrest, investigation, and prosecution of such unlawful acts.
