Mourners have been urged to always stay strong and be imitators of Christ.

The call was made by Fr. Peter Ongom Rwotpebale, during a requiem mass of Mzee Aquilino Awany, at St. Lawrence Deacon Catholic Church, kakoge ‘A’, Lira City West Division on Thursday, July 4, 2024.
He said, Christians should always be imitators of Christ, following his footsteps, rejoicing always in thanksgiving under all circumstances.
He also urged mourners to always repent that their lives may be well with Christ.
According to him, God has called every Christian into a ministry of the Gospel and reconciliation, adding that Mzee Aquilino left the body of Christ to continue running the race unceasingly.
Fr. Peter Ongom referenced his teachings from the book of Psalm 90:10 that say the days of man may come to seventy years, or eighty, if man’s strength endures, and urged the mourners to utilize the entire life serving the Lord.
He also reiterated the need for Christians to coexist with others in unity, and live in harmony.
Hailing from Otuke District in the Northern Region of Uganda, Mzee Aquilino Awany was born in 1952, and died on Friday, June 28, 2024.
He was a professional Veterinary Doctor, who worked with the Uganda Medical Stores – Entebbe as Veterinary field assistant in 1977.
In 1987, while in Otuke, during the Karamojong Insurgency in the region, he was shot in the leg, that later led to the amputation of his limb.
Mzee Aquilino the left work for the government due to his disabled condition and ventured Agrovet Partners in 1988 until his retirement in 2019.
In January 2024, Awany encountered complications after a slight breakdown, and his family has been on their heels during his treatment as he had blood clot in his veins and joint dislocation.
He underwent surgery at Lira Regional Referral Hospital in June 2024 that subsequently led to his death.
Mzee Aquilino Awany survived on wife; Alice Awany, ten children, and nine grandchildren.
He will be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Otuke District on Friday, July 5, 2024.
