A heartbreaking accident occurred in Omuny Lee village, Aringa parish, Te-Nam sub-county, Pader district, leaving a community in mourning. On the morning of January 14, 2025, a routine day of tree cutting took a tragic turn when a two-year-old child lost his life.

At around 8:00 am, Okidi Charles was engaged in cutting trees near his home. Unbeknownst to him, three young children who had been playing in the compound began to approach the area where he was working. As fate would have it, just as the tree was about to fall, it came down in the direction of the children. Tragically, the tree struck one of the children, identified as Kumagum Ramsey, resulting in his immediate death. The other two children fortunately escaped unharmed.

The distressing incident was reported the following day, January 15, 2025, at 9:40 am by Akech Biola at Puranga Police Station in Pader district. IP Joe Oloya, the Public Relations Officer of the Aswa East Region, provided further details, explaining that the body of the deceased was transported to Pajule Health Center IV for a postmortem examination. The child’s body showed no visible injuries, except for bloody fluid coming from the nose, indicating the severity of the impact.

The freshly cut tree was located approximately 70 meters away from the home, raising concerns about safety practices during such activities. IP Oloya Joe has appealed to the public to remain calm as investigation teams delve into the circumstances surrounding the accident. He emphasized that the incident was unintentional, and urged the community to allow the investigation to proceed without interference.
