The territorial police in Lira-City East Division are investigating a suspected murder by shooting after a tragic incident occurred on February 24, 2025.
At approximately 11:30 PM, unknown gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire at a container pork joint near Corner Boroboro Center along the Lira-Soroti highway.
Three people were shot, resulting in the death of 28-year-old Helen Akello, a resident of Barlwala Cell, Angwetangwet Ward. She was pronounced dead upon arrival at Lira Regional Referral Hospital.
Two other victims, Vivian Ayuru and Marcy Auma, sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical attention.
The police responded swiftly to the crime scene, led by the DPC Lira-City East Division, and have since examined and documented the area.
While the investigation is ongoing, no suspects have been named yet, and police are urging anyone with information about the perpetrators to come forward and share it with the authorities.
This incident is the latest in a series of violent crimes in Lira City, including a recent murder linked to a land dispute and a tragic shooting involving a private security guard.
