Lamwo District, Uganda – A somber mood has enveloped Madi Kiloc Primary School in Teegot Village, Agweng Parish, Padibe West Subcounty, following the tragic death of a teacher, Ongala Oroma Basil, on Monday, June 30, 2025.

According to IP Joe Oloya, the Acting Public Relations Officer for Aswa East Regional Police, the incident came to light at approximately 8:00 AM when Ocen Francis, a fellow teacher and neighbor, visited Ongala’s residence to check on him. Upon entering the room, Ocen found Ongala unconscious and immediately alerted the school’s headteacher, Okot Benson Wandera.

Medical personnel from Padibe Health Centre III were promptly summoned to provide emergency care. Despite their efforts, Ongala could not be revived and was pronounced dead shortly after.

The cause of Ongala’s death remains under investigation, with police yet to release further details. Authorities are working to establish the circumstances surrounding this tragic event, and the community awaits answers as they mourn the loss of a dedicated educator.

Ongala Oroma Basil was a respected member of the Madi Kiloc Primary School staff, known for his commitment to shaping young minds in the region. His untimely passing has left colleagues, students, and the wider community in shock and grief.

The Aswa East Regional Police have urged anyone with information related to the incident to come forward as investigations continue. Meanwhile, the school administration and local leaders are making arrangements to support Ongala’s family and provide counseling to students and staff affected by the loss.
