Oyam, Uganda – A horrific murder has rocked Arok village in Akaka parish, Aber Sub-County, Oyam District, as police investigate the brutal killing of 36-year-old Acila Jacob Jimmy. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of August 5, 2025, has left the community in shock and mourning.

According to a police statement issued by SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga Regional Public Relations Officer, the murder was reported by the victim’s elder brother, 46-year-old Bua Patrick. It is alleged that at approximately 12:05 a.m., a suspect identified as Otim Patrick lured Acila from his home under unclear circumstances. Otim, along with three other unidentified suspects, allegedly attacked Acila, hacking him to death with a panga and locally made spears. The victim’s cries for help alerted Bua Patrick, who rushed to the scene but arrived only in time to witness the suspects fleeing.

The incident was promptly reported to the Local Council I (LCI) chairperson of Arok village, who notified the Kamdini Town Council Police Station. A team of detectives and uniformed officers, led by the Officer-in-Charge of Kamdini Police Station, visited the crime scene, which was thoroughly examined and documented by the Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO). Recovered evidence included a panga, locally made spears, and blood samples. Statements from relevant witnesses have also been recorded to aid the investigation.

The body of Acila Jacob Jimmy, found dressed in a white short-sleeved shirt, a pair of shorts, and gumboots, bore multiple deep cuts and wounds, particularly on the head and other parts of the body. It was transported to Anyeke Health Centre IV mortuary, where a postmortem examination is pending to determine the precise cause of death.

In a significant development, the primary suspect, Otim Patrick, surrendered himself to Kole Police Station and has since been transferred to Oyam Central Police Station for further questioning. Efforts to apprehend the three remaining suspects, who are still at large, are ongoing, with police urging anyone with information to come forward.

SP Okema condemned the brutal act, emphasizing the police’s commitment to bringing all perpetrators to justice. “This is a tragic loss of life, and we are working tirelessly to ensure those responsible are held accountable,” he said. The investigation continues as the community grapples with the senseless violence that claimed the life of Acila Jacob Jimmy.
