ADJUMANI, August 15, 2025 – The Adjumani Police Department has reported two alarming arson incidents in Panyawe Village, Okangali Parish, Ciforo Sub-county, raising concerns among residents.

The attacks, which occurred on consecutive nights, targeted the homes of related individuals, with authorities suspecting a family dispute as the underlying motive.

On the night of August 13, 2025, unknown perpetrators set fire to a grass-thatched house belonging to Mazaakpe Christine. Another house in the same compound was targeted but escaped destruction, while a nearby house owned by Mandrera Joyce, a relative, sustained partial damage.

The following night, August 14, at approximately 11:00 PM, the grass-thatched home of Droma Alex, a 27-year-old peasant farmer, was set ablaze, with an unsuccessful attempt to burn another of his houses in the same homestead.

Police were alerted on August 15, 2025, and scene of crime officers documented evidence, including graffiti written in the Madi language at Droma Alex’s homestead. Additional property damage included brooms, food supplies, and cooking utensils. The incidents, occurring under the cover of darkness, have made identifying suspects challenging.

SP Asea Collins, North West Nile Region, stated that preliminary investigations suggest a connection between the incidents, potentially linked to family disputes, as all victims are related. The police are actively pursuing leads and have called on the public to provide any information that could assist in identifying those responsible.

“We are committed to ensuring the safety of our community and will leave no stone unturned in this investigation,” SP Collins said. Updates will be provided as new information emerges.

Residents with information are urged to contact the Adjumani Police Department to aid in the ongoing investigation.
