Yumbe, Uganda – A disturbing case of aggravated defilement has been reported at Yumbe Central Police Station (CPS) under CRB Number 451/2025, involving two young girls, aged 10 and 8, both of the Lugbara tribe, residing in Dramba Village, Adibo Parish, Arafa Sub-county, Yumbe District.

The suspect, identified as Atama, a 15-year-old male of the Aringa tribe from Jote Village, Iraa Ward, Arafa Sub-county, is currently in police custody.

According to police reports, the incident occurred on the night of September 4, 2025, at an unspecified hour. The suspect allegedly entered the victims’ room while they were asleep and engaged in unlawful sexual acts with the two girls, who are orphans living with their grandmother. The grandmother was absent during the incident, leaving the children vulnerable.

The crime was reported to Arafa Police Station the following day, September 5, 2025. Authorities acted swiftly, arresting the suspect and initiating investigations. The victims have been issued Pf3A forms to facilitate medical examinations and legal proceedings. The suspect remains detained as inquiries continue.

SP Asea Collins, North West Nile Region, condemned the incident and urged community members to take preventive measures. “We strongly advise separating children during sleep, particularly ensuring young girls do not share sleeping spaces with or near male children, to avoid such tragic incidents,” he stated. The police have committed to providing updates as the investigation progresses.

This incident has sparked concern among residents of Dramba Village, with community leaders calling for increased vigilance and stronger measures to protect vulnerable children. The case underscores the ongoing challenges of child safety in rural areas, particularly for orphans and those in caregiving arrangements.

Authorities are appealing to the public for any additional information that may assist in the investigation. The Yumbe CPS continues to prioritize the safety and well-being of the community while seeking justice for the victims.
