Laropi Sub-county, Moyo District – Torrential rains have unleashed devastating floods in Panyanga Parish, Laropi Sub-county, Moyo District, displacing numerous families and causing widespread destruction of homes, livestock, and property.

The seasonal deluge has submerged households, collapsed latrines, and swept away poultry and domestic animals, leaving residents in distress.

Local authorities, including the Uganda Police Force and the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF), have mobilized swiftly to coordinate emergency relief efforts. SP Asea Collins, speaking on behalf of the North West Nile Region, emphasized the police’s commitment to safeguarding lives and maintaining order during this crisis. “We are working closely with relevant agencies and stakeholders to support affected communities,” SP Collins stated. “Our priority is to ensure the safety of residents and protect their property.”

Local leaders and humanitarian organizations are intensifying sensitization campaigns to educate communities on flood risks and preventive measures. “We strongly advise residents to remain vigilant and refrain from re-occupying vulnerable areas,” SP Collins added.

The situation has also raised concerns about opportunistic crime, with warnings issued to communities to secure their belongings against potential theft. The Uganda Police remain on high alert, actively monitoring the area to prevent criminal activities and ensure the safety of residents.
