YUMBE, September 15, 2025 – A disturbing case of aggravated defilement was reported in Yumbe District’s Kochi Sub-county, where a 10-year-old girl, referred to as Fikira (pseudonym), was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 21-year-old man, identified as Fungaro (pseudonym), on September 12, 2025.

The incident, recorded under Kochi Police Station’s CRB: 014/2025, has sparked outrage and renewed calls for community vigilance to protect young girls.

According to police reports, the incident occurred at approximately 13:00 hours when Fikira, a student from Kevuru Village, was sent to Kevuru Trading Centre to purchase silver fish (Mukene). On her way back, the suspect, a peasant farmer from the same village, allegedly followed her, forcibly pulled her into nearby bushes, and engaged in unprotected sexual intercourse before fleeing the scene. The victim managed to return home and reported the assault to her guardian, who promptly alerted the authorities.

The case was reported to Kochi Police Station at 22:00 hours on the same day. Police issued a PF3A form for the victim, who underwent a medical examination and is currently receiving treatment at Yumbe Health Center IV under professional medical guidance. The suspect was arrested and examined using PF24A forms as part of the ongoing investigation.

SP Asea Collins, North West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson, condemned the act and urged the community to take an active role in safeguarding children. “We call on everyone to remain vigilant and protect our girl children from such offenders,” SP Collins said. “The girl child is an agent of development and progress, and our collective efforts are crucial to ensuring their safety.”

The police investigation is ongoing, with further updates to be provided as new information emerges. This incident underscores the urgent need for community action to prevent gender-based violence and protect vulnerable children in the region.
