Arua, Uganda – October 8, 2025
In a heartening development for law enforcement and community relations in Uganda’s West Nile Region, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Josephine Angucia has resumed her role as Public Relations Officer (PRO) at the Regional Police Headquarters in Arua.
Angucia, a familiar and respected figure in regional policing, shared the news in a warm address to her team, marking her return after a transformative year of professional development.
A Triumphant Return to Service
“Good afternoon team! Hope all is fine,” Angucia began in her message, exuding the approachable demeanor that has endeared her to journalists, community leaders, and residents alike. As the former—and now current—PRO for West Nile, SSP Angucia stepped away last year to pursue a prestigious Senior Command Course alongside a Master’s in Peace and Conflict Studies at Makerere University (MUK). She has successfully completed the command course and is now in the final stages of her research for the master’s thesis.
The Uganda Police Force has granted her a Return to Unit (RTU), allowing her to dive back into her duties while wrapping up her academic commitments. “I am available in PRO’s office at the Regional Police Headquarters Arua ready to serve in that capacity,” she assured. “Feel free as usual to consult and share issues relating to policing in the Region.”
Angucia’s return comes at a pivotal time for West Nile, a region that has faced its share of challenges, from firearm recoveries and community policing initiatives to high-profile investigations. Her expertise in bridging the gap between police operations and public engagement has been instrumental in building trust and transparency over the years.
Gratitude and a Nod to the Team
In her address, SSP Angucia extended sincere thanks to her interim successors—SP Anguyo Jimmy and SP Asea Collins—for their steadfast leadership during her absence. She also commended the regional commanders for their cooperation with the media and stakeholders. “I thank SP Anguyo Jimmy, SP Asea Collins and the Commanders here for steering the office well and for cooperating with you in the past one year,” she wrote. “Thanks for your prayers. Aluta continua!”
This spirit of camaraderie underscores the collaborative ethos that has defined West Nile policing under her watch. Angucia’s tenure prior to her sabbatical saw notable successes, including joint operations leading to the recovery of illegal firearms in Koboko District, community sensitization programs in refugee settlements, and the retrieval of stolen motorcycles alongside number plate crackdowns. Her proactive communication style has also been key in addressing incidents like the recovery of a drowned tourist’s body in the River Nile and commitments of suspects in election-related violence.
A Boost for Regional Policing and Community Ties
Angucia’s advanced training in peace and conflict studies is poised to further enhance her contributions, particularly in a diverse region like West Nile, home to vibrant communities, refugee populations, and ongoing development efforts. Her return signals a renewed focus on inclusive policing strategies that prioritize dialogue, conflict resolution, and public safety.
Local stakeholders have welcomed the news with enthusiasm. “SSP Angucia’s return is a game-changer for us,” said a community leader from Arua, speaking on condition of anonymity. “Her openness has always made it easier for us to report issues and get timely responses.” As she settles back in, Angucia invites continued collaboration: “Aluta continua!”—the struggle continues, but with renewed vigor.
The Northern Press congratulates SSP Josephine Angucia on this milestone and looks forward to working alongside her to keep West Nile informed and secure.
