State Minister for Higher Education, Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo, cautioned schools against starting the new term before the official date of February 5th.
The Ministry of Education and Sports has set February 5th as the official commencement date for the school term.
Minister Muyingo expressed concern about reports indicating that some schools are preparing to open earlier, deeming it illegal, and urged District Education Officers to take action against schools that defy the official directive.
Speaking at a Thanksgiving ceremony in Busiika, Ziroobwe Town Council, Muyingo emphasized that the holiday period is crucial for children to be nurtured by parents without the pressure of academic studies.
He highlighted the importance of a home as the best environment for shaping a child’s development.
Muyingo observed that certain schools might be calling students back not with the intention to teach but to generate revenue.
He encouraged parents to actively engage with their children during the holidays, citing the positive impact of such interactions on successful individuals who spent quality time with their parents.
