Two perish, others nursing injuries after Kwania fatal crash

Two people have perished while two others have sustained serious injuries following a fatal road crash.

Preliminary findings indicate that vehicle Reg No UAX 981Q Mitsubishi Fuso green in colour overturned on February 16, 2024, at around 5:00AM at Alebe village, Aboko parish in Kwania district.
It’s alleged that the lights of the said vehicle went off while moving and the driver lost control, went off-road and overturned.
The vehicle is suspected to have been loaded with sacks of maize which is believed to have fallen on the two, killing them instantly.
Police in Kwania district were informed and traffic officers immediately documented the scene, and the officers picked the two dead bodies for postmortem at Apac Main Hospital.

North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson SP Jimmy Patrick Okema has identified the deceased as Fred Akiiza and Walter Omara.
The two who were seriously injured were rushed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.
The spokesperson, also confirmed that the vehicle has been removed and taken to Kwania Central Police Station pending IOV inspection.
Okema who described the incident as very unfortunate, appealed to drivers and riders to always check the conditions of their vehicles before going on the road, adding that Apac road is under construction, and all road users should take precautions that road signs are not yet installed by the constructors though some other points are very smooth.
